The LGP industry relentlessly strives for continued product development to achieve improved performance, reduced thickness and lower costs. The majority of the Light Guide Plates currently available on the market are 0.3 mm or thicker. Mobile phones are favoured with the thinnest LGPs, whereas TV sets use LGPs that are considerably thicker – there is actually a wide range of thicknesses depending on what is expected from the end product. The thinnest LGPs available on the market today are limited by what existing techniques may achieve without impairing quality and/or strength. TC TECH has successfully developed LGPs for mobile phones that are half as thick as those used today. TC TECH’s system has produced LGPs that are 0.125 mm thin and equipped with a wedge that allows for a thicker LED – the LED otherwise limiting the thinness of the LGP.

TC TECH has performed promising tests with patterns on LGPs down to 0.05 mm thin, and is now ready for the next step on the road towards energy-saving LGPs with the lowest possible environmental impact throughout the production process.
